Franconie Museum
Located at Cayenne in a magnificent Creole house, which has been classified an historic monument, Franconie Museum is the cultural heart of French Guiana. It contains a complete collection of artifacts of French Guiana’s heritage: culture, craftwork, and nature. This is a must-see museum to understand French Guiana’s vast heritage.

Museum of Guianese Cultures
Set in a beautiful traditional house in Cayenne, the Museum of Guianese Cultures is the guardian of Guianese heritage. Exhibitions and the documentation center relate French Guiana’s social history and culture.

Main themes: Civilizations outside Europe; Ethnology.
Major strengths:
Temporary exhibitions on French Guiana’s different cultural groups (Creole, Amerindian, and Maroon).
The themes generally change every 6 months.
Themes of the collections:
Amerindian and colonial archeology. Other collections: paper archives, engravings, photographs, postcards, costumes, habitats, furniture, crafts, tools, religious practices, and music.
Architecture:
A typical Guianese house built over 100 years ago, which once belonged to a gold prospector. Acquired by the Regional Council and renovated according to Creole traditions, it includes an indoor garden filled with aromatic and medicinal plants.
Tourism:
The Loyola House, Vidal House, and the Rhumerie (rum distillery).
