This macrosystem encompasses a variety of plant communities in which a large number of ecosystems evolve, where each species—plant or animal—has its place and plays a vital role in this natural civilization, which must be preserved.
5,500 species of plants, including over 1000 types of trees, 700 species of birds, 177 species of mammals, 430 species of fish, and 109 species of amphibians.
Although animals are everywhere in the forest, they remain somewhat hidden during the day and become very active at night. So the best time to catch a glimpse of a wider variety of animals is at sunrise and sunset.
During your expeditions, don’t forget to bring your binoculars and listen carefully for the rustling of leaves; it reveals the presence of fruit- and seed-eating animals. Perhaps you will come across a pac or an agouti. If you see a burrow, it probably belongs to a giant anteater or an armadillo.
Keep an ear open; some calls may be those of a howler monkey, macaw, or toucan.
